Ok.. I am part Lebanese and we had this big Syrian meal a little over a year ago.

I tasted this chalky white (chalky texture and color) 'food' and it made me nearly vomit. Asking my relatives, i found out it was a Lebanese Candy... or that is what they called it anyway.

They called it...

Haleighwe..... except that spelling i WAYYY off. I tried googling it and came up with nothing.

Please help me find out the actual name and spelling of this 'candy'. Thanks

  1. You probably ate Halva.

Made with Tahini (sesame butter) flour, sugar.

Sometimes they flavor it with cocoa, or add roasted almonds to it.

It’s an acquired taste, not everyone likes it...

  2. sorry, cant help ya

  3. Halawa

Consists of sugar, ground sesame seeds and citric acid. Have your halewe(Plain Halawa)

for breakfast and dessert. Also called halva

  4. try halwa (halwah, halva, halvah).... there are lots of variations, sounds like you had the nougat kind.  Personally, not my fav either.  Better to stick to the baklava, nammoura & kataifi!
