  1. Considering the general makeup of the people in The Netherlands - i can safely say that everything, and everyone is hated.

    Or loved.

But - it`s  a bit hard to answer, really.

You have the original dutch people, you have moroccans, turks, africans, americans etc. etc. living here - and each group has their own likes and dislikes.

If you mean the dutch people as a general - well, we all hate taxes, we like it if 'we' win in any game (such as the olympics) .. but these are just generalized things.

I think that the best think we like is if people around us just act normal.

Just act normal, that`s weird enough - is a saying that`s used a lot.

  2. Look here:

Lots of information about the Netherlands and its inhabitants..

    "Sinterklaas"is a typical Dutch feast.

  3. Dutch people like there freedom and their right to argue and argue about anything, further the dutch can be considered greedy which is not so true we simply like a good bargain, they love football ( as in footy or soccer) very patriotic, we all think belgiums are simple minded retards which i true in a fact, dislike the germans one becuz they invaded our neutral country in ww2, and becauz they cheated in the world cup final (footbal) against us, foods: haring, stampot boerkool, poffertjes, olliebollen, etc. and we are well know for being gezellig (this word does not exist in anyother language and is impossible to explain precise) a mixture of fun, cosy, good atmosphere

  4. Having lived in the Netherlands for six years, I can tell you that the Dutch are a complicated people.

Generally they are quite open, and g*y marriages are permitted, but there is still a strong Christian Protestant ethic in force, which seems a bit at odds with the whole legalised prostitution things and the police tolerance towards soft drugs.

This openness extends to foreigners who live there ... Moroccans, Africans, Asians, South Americans, other Europeans, etc .... but those foreigners are expected to amalagamate into the Dutch mainstream. No, they are not asked to give up their national identities, but they are expected to learn the language, earn a living, pay their taxes, and generally make some contribution to society. It's made easier by the government's practical approach to language and cultural training. I myself took a Dutch language course, and learned about the language, culture and attained considerable insight into the Dutch mindset through this course - along with Russian, Kurdish, Scottish, Italian, Ukrainian, and Northern African people who were living in the country because they were relationships with Dutch nationals, or were there for work.

Dutch people love to travel, love to speak other languages (very few Dutch under the age of 40 cannot speak at least some English), love a good, rounded and informed argument, and yes, they most certainly love a bargain!

As regards food, there are many immigrants from the former colonies which were known and the East Indies and the West Indies, these are now Indonesia and Suriname, and the Netherlands-Antilles, and of course these people brought with them their own culture in the food, in the music, and in the patois, their own version of Dutch which is also mixed with Arabic, Indian languages, Portuguese, Spanish and French. If you get a chance to each West Indian roti, a type of pancake, don't pass it up, it's delicious. Likewise the Indonesian cuisine, which has become so much a part of Dutch society that it has nearly taken over the average kitchen! Naturally there are other types of food available, but these are the most prevalent.

And there's something the Dutch like to say also: "God made the world, but the Dutch made Holland." It's only a slight exaggerration, as most of the country is below sea level, and Dutch engineers have spent centuries developing ways of keeping the water out. And of course there are the polders in what is new the IJsselmeer - whole tracts of land that were built during the 20th century, the Dutch found a way of blocking off the North Sea and turned what was the Zuyder Zee into a huge lake, then created the New Land. They can be proud of their engineering achievements, I think. And it's no surprise that the US government has contracted some Dutch water engineers to help with the problems around New Orleans in the US, if there's a crowd that know how to work with water, it's the Dutch.

The Dutch don't like foreigners going on about the drugs and prostitution in a negative manner, and assuming that this is all there is to the Netherlands. It simply isn't. The Dutch certainly don't like ignorant men hitting on their women because these men naively assume that all Dutch women will accept money for sexual favours.
