i live in the philadelphia area and i'm having a hard time finding a high school for my son.. you see my son has ADHD and doesnt get along with to many people.. he cant take jokes. he thinks when people joke around with him that they're teasing him.. he doesnt know how to distinguish that. He's not voilent just very emotional .. any public school around where i live have have Learning disabled classes but its really just made up of the bad students and my sons not learning anything... the kids were really mean to him there. stabbed him with a pencel ,spit things at him and all.. actaully they did all that stuff to everyone in the class room not just my son... i want to find a good school that specializes in learning problems with teens.. my sons in 9th grade this year. if anyone out there knows of any in the Philadelphia or near by me . has to be at least in pa... it would be greatly appreciated ....

  1. Call your state dept of education and ask for the 'federally funded special education parent advocacy agency'

All states have this and they help parents for free.

  2. I don't know if it's practical for you but as the behavioural problems of the other students at what should be a good class for your son doesn't seem to work.

have you thought about home schooling as without the distractions of the other students he may have a better chance at learning.

this is the solution that was come up with for a student at a school where my tafe teacher was teaching.

  3. Have you looked into a cyber school setting?

Disclaimer:  I have an association with PA Leadership Charter School.

However, PALCS is not the only one.  PALCS does have a significant sped population, with many kids who are in a similar situation as your son.
