I need help in getting started in raising money for a cause?

how do you get started in creating an organization to raise money for a cause? can I simply start one of my own and then ask people to donate and then eventually donate the money to Unicef or another charity organization?

You can do exactly that.  Just tell everyone what you are doing.  Make sure that you have a target date so they can know that their money will get something accomplished this year.  You can put up notices in grocery stores or stand outside the public library.
