  1. if i remember right it meant that even if you had perfect human form but had any qualities or powers (like Heroes TV prog) you were a blasphemy and had to be cleansed from the community ( which was extremely based on Christianity) so some lived in a sort of badlands where deformed people from radiation sickness lived.  of course the heroes in this book are perfectly formed but mutated to have telepathic powers. they eventually are rescued by zeelanders in southern hemisphere.Modern day new zealand where they've escaped the worst of the radiation

  3. i believe in my naivety that it means that any child created through artificial methods like cloning is a blasphemy.

    leonardo da vinci infuriated the church by claiming to have created a child in a test tube.

  4. It means that anyone who appears to be human, but is not "normal", eg. the girl with six toes, is from the devil and shunned by God. Man is supposed to be in the form of God, so any deviation from the "true" form represents distance from God.
