I am looking to babysit children this summer and have had several offers but I am so confused about what to charge. I am 25 years old, have been babysitting since I was a teenager. I am also a first grade teacher and I'm currently getting my Master's degree in Reading. I live near Washington, D.C..

I want to charge what I'm worth but not too much that the parents think it is outrageous.

  1. For someone your age and experience, I'd likely pay somewhere between $8 and 10/hour.  If there is more than one child, more on the $10 side.  It also depends on if you're cpr certified as well.  That's really important to me.  As well as how available you are.  I pay our sitter for one child (she's sat for us since he was 3 months old and now he's almost 3) in the evenings - at least once a week - $12/hour.  She's in her 50's and has raised 2 kids and has been a babysitter/nanny for 10+ years.  She's cpr certified.  She's ALWAYS available for us.

  2. seriously....depends on ages of kids and how long ur babysitting..........babys costing more than kids and young kids in the middle...kids being 12...babys being up to 3

  3. Well, since your an adult and it is considered an actual job ( like a daycare ) instead of some teen wanting money, then i think you should get more than an average babysitter.

I would charge 6$ anhour for the first kid, and adding an additonal 3$ for every kid after that.

So if your watching 3 kids for 5 hours, then you would recieve 60$.

I personally charge 5$ for the first kid, and 2$ for each additional kid. So for me, 3 kids for 5 hours would be 45$.
