I got my cartalidge pierced earlier in July, and I obviously need to wait out my 8-12 weeks until I can remove the earring. I am in a situation where I'm not allowed to wear the earring, so I was looking into a clear ear plug..but I just need help in knowing what size gauge it is. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

  1. usually 18

  2. Was it pierced with a gun? A normal sized piercing that has not been gaged is normally 20g. Plugs don't exist that small.

I had my cartilages pierced with a needle, not a gun, and therefore they were pierced at 16g, which isn't that large at all, but still slightly gauged. It's difficult to tell the difference between the sizes simply by sight because the changes can appear ever so small. Your best bet is going back to the piercer and finding out what size you were pierced at.

  3. If you got it done at Claire's or with a gun like most others said it will be 18 gauge.

Also- to find a clear retainer you want to go to Claire's and get "pierced ear protectors" they are little plastic stud do-dads that you usually put on over earrings if you have an allergy. In your case, you can just use the plastic piece as a retainer, it'll be inconspicuous and it will keep your piercing open.

  4. 18, but some places do it different sizes, its better to call the place and ask what size they pierce cartilage with.

  5. Piercing studios pierce at a 16 gauge.

If you get your ears pierced at a place like claires, they pierce at an 18 gauge (which is smaller)

I dont reccommend ever piercing at a place like claires, because all normal jewelery starts at a 16 gauge. It's not a big deal to put something like a 16 gauge in when you're pierced at an 18, but it could be a bit uncomfortable for a few days.

  6. 18 or 20g.
