I need help knowing what to look for in a camcorder?

I have had the same camcorder for many years now and am going to update. Its been along time since i have gotten in the camcorder market so i have no clue what new features they have. Im willing to pay $300-$600 and would maybe like the camera to be able to take digital photos. thank you guys for all your help. ps also links would be helpfull

Its always best to have a digital camera for stills and a video camera for videos.

There are some pretty amazing digital cameras that will take good MPEG videos though.

I use these guidelines for buying:

1) LCD size

2) zoom power

3) format, digital8, DVD, HDD

4) price
