I need help learning?

I have been homeschooled for the past three years and this fall I am going to go back up to school. My parents want me to take vollyball. I am going into 9th grade and have never played vollyball in my life. The other girls are going to be a lot better than I am so I want to start practicing drills over the summer. Does anyone know of any drills or any websites to help me learn quickly. Thanks!

  1. ok first of all u need to decide if u want to b-a setter or a hitter- for either of these positions u need to first learn how to bump i would recomend bumping back and forth with another girl on the volleyball team the most important factor of volleyball is CONTROL!!! then if u want to be a setter u need to work on getting "soft hands" u need to make sure u catch the ball and push it up instead of just smacking it up-that will also be called illegal by the judges- a way u can practice setting is by lifting it up as high as u can over ur head then see how far u can u set then u need to set it as lightly as u can-this will help with control- also u can set it back and forth with someone else on the volleyball tam butif u cant pracice with anyone then set it up against a wall also u can practice setting with a basketball for about five minutes but w/e u do dont practice with a basketball rite b4 a game because ur hands will become accustomed to the basketball and u wont be able to control the volleyball in a game BUT if u want to be a hitter u need to do work on arm strength u can do push ups and lift weights and all that other good stuff :)  this may sound like a stupid excercise but trust me it works hang a towel under something sturdy an make sure the towel wont come out then hit the towel as fast as u can and snap ur wrist while u do it this will help with bot hitting and serving-serving takes strength but the ball will have more power behind it the faster u hit it and make sure u snap r wrists that is a very important part to serving and spiking

personally im a setter im not really short but since im only 13 and the youngest person on the team i short to everyone else =] but if ur taller i would try hitting but if u dont like it try setting

my ast advice is just try ur hardest have fun and dont get frustrated ive oy played for 2 years and last year let me tell i sucked really bad but if u dont give up u could just find out that ur actually really good and u love volleyball so yea good luck and dont be nervous im sure ull do great and srry ths is solong i guess i got a little carried away =]

  2. Don't fret too much - most of those girls have never played before either, they just have an interest in it, and that's all you need to get started playing. If you've got friends, take a ball out and play with them at the park and soon enough, it'll be second nature for you. check out the link I attached but remember to always enjoy what you do and you'll have no problem being successful at it.

  3. If you have any wall that don't have windows(outside walls) and bump against the wall will you self or you can even take you volleyball and bump straight up in the air and try to stay in one spot that will help you control the ball just little bumps when you are doing that you don't want the ball way out of control. If you know someone that plays maybe you can get them to help you with you skills. You might even go to you library and get a book on volleyball skills.I have found a few books at my library.

  4. You can try spiking aganst the wall and trying to get the vollyball on you roof using all  hitting types.  also you can go to a vollyball camp. But don't be worried i bet half of the girls trying out in 9th grade just started GOOD LUCK!!!
