My boyfriend and I started snowboarding about a year ago. He got the a Gnu 161W board. He weighs around 220 and is 6 foot. He really wants a shorter and lighter board but it needs to be a wide board. Does anyone know of a brand with wider boards that I could look into purchasing?

  1. almost every big board company makes wide boards.

    Burton has: Custom and King

    Rome has: Slash and Machine

    Forum has: Bully and Raider

    Ride has: Dose and Fleetwood

Libtech has: the Dark Series and a few other boards but only have 1 or 2 lengths in wide

  2. go to http://www.neversummer.com/

  3. At 180 lbs, I'm much lighter than your guy and I ride a 160 and love it.  Many people think that going shorter is going to be some sort of magic answer to their riding development: it isn't.  Sure going shorter may help with spinning, but at 220 lbs he should have the length to support that weight at speed, in the pipe, and landing jumps.  He can also power up a stiffer board for ollies and nollies.  He just has to learn how.

Board length and flex are both compromises.  If all you do is jibbing and spinning in the park, then sure a short board is fine.  If you want to take those same jib and jumps and put them out onto the mountain, run steeper terrain, or get some high speed carved turns, then you will need to keep the longer board.

That said, I'll add a few suggestions:

Nitro T2 is a mid-wide - if his feet are not too big

Nitro also has the Team Wide, MFM Wide, and Misfit Wide for a bigger foot

Sapient makes a wide version of every one of their boards (I think) look at the Blitzschell or Evolution

  4. Dude wait until the 2009 boards come in, they are so sweet and the winter is over in another month so why not wait, they come out near October or November, and if your looking for a board, go with the 2009 Academy Team Board, it got a 10 in pipe, park and street and its not on the website right now and will be on there soon so keep checking
