If someone can answer some questions i would appreciate it.

1)Do i need a male molli to have my female have eggs? (i know its a stupid question)

2)My black molli had about 15 babies, will they all be able to fit in a 1.5 gallon tank (my brother is saving up money to but a bigger tank so he will have a tank bigger hen 5 gallons and i will get his 5 gallon one)

can i keep all 15 mollies in one tank until i get the 5 gallon tank?

3) exactly how many baby Molli's can i expect in the next batch of Millie's?

4)do they absolutely need a filter (its an air filter) cause i have other tropical fish that need the filter but i rather them die then the newborn fry. i know sad but i really don't wanna loose the Babbie's

5)BLOOD-WORMS vs. SUN-DRIED-BABY-SHRIMP! which one is better? i have the sun-dried-baby-shrimp and i crushed them up really small to see if the fry like it but is it safe to give it to them

6)ROCKS IN THE TANK- is it safe to have rocks in the bottem of the tank?

7)in the next fry batch, how many babies can i exspect the mom to try to eat or eat them? why do fish eat the babies?

8)LIGHTS- i have a "zm-1" to heat the tank and a black roof to help it stay hot longer, i have it on all the time but the water doesn't feel warm. is that good?

9)how long do i have to wait till i can put the mom back in the tank with the frys (i had bought 2 fish te mom and a babie that was apart of an axadental birth at the store and i guess the mother of the fry ate the rest. and she doesn't do anything to the fry. (the fry is medium, like it is still a baby but it is more visible then the new born fry and bigger. so it is bigger then the fry but smaller then the mom of the fry)

10) is there a way to tell the diferance between a male molli and a female molli?

please answer all the questions you know for sure and please put how you know about it in the "source" section.

thanks

  1. Mollies are live bearers so no eggs but yes you need a male and female for babies. better to have 2 females for 1 male. You need a bigger tank its usualy 3 fish per gallon of water. Our guppy just had 13 babies so think around 10.yes they need a filter and a heater if you cant keep the temperature regulated without one. They sell baby fry food but my babies are fine eating the flakes if i crush it up a bit.The rocks in the tank should be fine, they like places to hide like plants.yes she will probably eat her babies. not sure why they do that though.I wouldnt leave the light on all the time or the tank will get too hot. get a thermomotor.Wait 4 weeks to put the babies in the tank with the older fish so they dont get eaten by the others. To tell if they are male or female the males have a p***s you can see it under there belly near there tail... it looks like a small fin .I hope all of this helps. you can also get more info online or at the library.

  2. 1. No the male cannot hold any eggs. Mollies are livebearers so that means they give birth to the fish instead of laying eggs.

    2. They are going to be tiny so I think they could fit but the parents might eat them faster. You should decide on getting a 10 gallon because the babies will never grow faster. Make sure they have alot of hiding places like plants or a little cave.

3.It depends on how big your tank is and your molly. They can have up to 100 babies.

    4. Yes they need a filter.

5.Both is good and even regular fish food flakes just crush them into smaller pieces and they will eat that also.

    6.Yes it is safe.

7.You can only expect only so much babies because it depends on how big your fish is. If shes young maybe like 30 or lessthan that. They eat the babies because they get hungry so that why when she's pregnant again you should feed alot more than the other fish because they are always hungry.

8.You should buy a temperature so you can see how hot or cold it is because testing with your hand is not good. Mollies can adapt to 68degrees to 82degrees around the 70-75 area is perfect! You should leave the light on for the day and turn it off at night.

9.Where do you have the mom? You should just put the mom back and try to buy plants at the store so the babies can hide well enough but 1.5 gallon is not so big..

10.Male molly has a gondopdium sorry i dont know how to spell it but they have a long straight fin on the bottom of the fish. Females have a big curved fin under her.

    I wish you luck!

  3. I dont know how common this is, but my rather LARGE black molly gave birth a month ago to just over 100 babies... Out of them, considering some were ate and some just ended up dying, we still have over 50 left. Right now their crammed into a 3 gallon tank, but their waste is causing the alkaline levels to go through the roof. We're in the process of getting a 20 gallon just for the mollies, until they are bigger. I hear everyone throwing around "1 inch of fish per gallon", if that is true, then I'm going to need a 50 gallon.. lol
