How many mana cards should be in a deck? (I have all colored decks and trying to make some decks for me and my friends from cards we had in our draws.

How many sorcery, artifact, and enchantments cards should be in a deck.

And last of all, how many creature cards?

  1. ok i am the best deckbuilder in the world and have an encyclopedic knowledge of cards.so email me at(jordonmorrissey@hotmail.com)

ok lets get started this is a deep subject ill have to paragraph./

    Land

ok argueably the most important part of a deck ok

now you should have 24 if you have over 6 spells that cost 6 or more

however more efficient than land is mana producing creatures and artifacts. in ravnica they have signets they cost 2 and produce two types of mana(very efficient) bhowever you seem like a new player so you will be fqmiliar with lorwyn. ok

there is an artifact called springleaf drum it is common. it requires a creature and cost only 1(it should be uncommon it is that good)

if you have 4 of those you can have 20 lands

if you only have cheap(1 or 2 mana) spells or alot of mana genrateing creatures and artfacts you could have 18 if you can make an effective deck off of only one or two cost creatures i would like to know.

    THEME

have a theme a strategy that you follow and every card in your deck works toward. whether it be getting your oponnent from 20 to 0 life as quicklyu as possible. or to sit back and countetr their spells bounce there creatures and then kill them with a fat flier(air elemental) or to make infinite elves and attack(yes you can do this)

    SPELLS

ok there is no ratio or golden rule you can follow it depends on the deck

if you want to have a damge race with an opponent than 20-24 creatures is good maybe more.(this sort of deck is called beatdown)

if you want to sit back and counter and bounce maybe you only need enough to defend your self high toughness low cost creatures and a few finishers(air elementals)so you need enough that you will draw those cards and your creatures should have abilities that will throw you opponents off like counter abilities or abilities that return your or their creatures to their owners hand. so for a reliable creature base you should have 14 creatures at least all with high toughness or an abilitie(excluding air elementals)

a combo deck can have no creatures depending on how fast it is i have a turn 3 infinite elves combo and i can kill my oppionent as long as i get my combo before i get down to 0 life.(mine does have creatures but the all help the combo along)

anyway if you have questions email me oh send me your decklist and a list of other cards yuou think might be good in a deck ill tell you whether it will work or not( i might make the deck myself and take it for a spin to see how it works) i am dedicated to helping you enjoy your magic experience.

  2. allright, i have been playing  magic for about 7 years now, won a few tournaments and have a background around my town, there isnt really a number about how many sorcerys, artifacts etc that you can have in a deck, alot of my decks dont have sorcerys at all and i have one with absolutly no creatures, the most important part is to go through your cards and see what cards play well together...in green decks creatures are probably the best way to go, red sorcerys, blue instants, black creatures/instants, and white creatures and sorcerys....the most important part is to be unique and create a deck that youll like and win with....my personal tip for mana is to have 1/3 of your deck be lands, or some people say to count the colored mana cost of all the other cards in your deck and have that many lands...and a deck needs to be at least 60 cards...hope this helps

this link has many videos that will teach you all you need to know to start playing magic the gathering. I hope that this helps you and welcome to the world of MtG.

  4. To play in a tournament, you need a 60 card deck.  That differs if you are playing booster drafts or other specialized games, but the normal deck is 60 cards.

As for the land, usually about 1/3+.  So that is usually around 20-24. lands.  If you look at the average casting cost of the spells in your deck, you adjust that up or down.  Some decks (such as white weenie decks, green mana decks or black suicide decks) can get away with 18-20 lands, while others (control decks, higher casting cost decks or combo decks) may need 21-24.  Deal out the deck a few times and see what you can do.

If you are playing single color decks, life is easier, as you make sure you have basic lands of the type needed, plus whatever special lands you have.  If you are playing multi-colored decks, a good tip is to look at the colored casting costs of each card.  If, for example, you are lpaying a red/green deck and 10 of your cards have double red in the casting cost while none of the green cards have double green in the casting cost, you may need more mountains than forests in the deck. If however, your green spells let you get out basic lands (Harrow, Reap and Sow, etc), then you may need more forests. This is something you have to experiment with.

As for creatures, you should look at how you are trying to win.  Are you trying to smash with creatures?  If so, you need more creatures than if you are trying to lock down the board with spells.

Have fun - and remember that you can always post your deck here and get some advice!

  5. Well I remember asking everyone about Magic The Gathering but i'll share a few tips with you the most important part of your deck is basic land cards without land cards no monsters you also should have instants now you can go to your local store and just get a deck no problem but if you want your deck to be more interesting you should buy booster packs but it will be hard to get land cards enchantments and sorcery should be next on your list and then last but not least artifacts.
