My brother was arrested for grand theft im guessing over 5,000 dollars. its his first offense in the state of CA im just seeing what the time he might serve would be.. Im saying he has more time than we have money but im just curious since he has not gone to trial as of yet.. Any information would be helpful. Also if anyone knows any good public defenders just in case that would be helpfull also.. Thank you : )

  1. It depends on many factors. Look on line and find out what min sentence could be.

Let me share something....the same thing happened to my mom and she is 60 years old. I am not in CA but my dad is a Lawyer there. So I know it relies heavy on your defense.

I would say to remember this...if he confesses and is than sentenced he will not be able to appeal his sentence. If he does not plead, he will be able to appeal if his sentence is tough.

My mom had more than that amount that she was charged with, but her lawyer SUCKED, she never had a record, has medical issues and was given 5 years!!! She is currently incarcerated and it is really sad. Just be there for him and PRAY! The Lord will get you through anything that comes your way! Good Luck!

  2. It depends on what he stole and what charges he is finally charged with. They usually reduce the charge for a plea. He may have 60 days in county or 1 year in state, it depends on the prosecutor and the evidence.
