You don't say how long the word is, but my guess is Luxembourg.  I used to go there often when I was a child in Germany.  The casements were creepy and scary, so naturally my bro and sisters and I begged to go back every time we visited Luxembourg.  As for the bridges, going across the crooked one was always our favorite.  We were told by the locals that the bridge was started by two crews, one on each side of the river.  When they reached the middle, they realized the ends weren't going to meet, so they bent the road in order to connect with each other.  I can't remember if it was in Echternach or Luxembourg City, but every time we went there, we insisted on crossing the river on that specific bridge.
