  1. first you have to get things out of the parentheses by distributing. you distribute -1 to the (13+4x). it is -1 because when you have a - in front of a parenteses there is an understood -1. you must also distribute the -3 to the (5-9x). you should get this:

    -x-13-4x=-15+27x+2

    now you add up like things:

    -x+ -4x= -5x     and     -15+2= -13

    your problem should now look like;

    -5x -13 = -13+27x

    now it is a matter of getting the x's on one side and the numbers on the other. add the 5x on both sides, that way you cancel it out on the left and have it on the right.

    -13= -13+32x

    then add the 13 on both sides.

    0=32x

    now divide the 32 on both sides and you get x =0/32

    and in the end you get 0.

    when you plug back 0 in the equations you get -13 for both. success!

    et viola! fini i hoped that helped some.

  2. Expand both sides.  For the left side, imagine it's really written

    -x + -1(13+4x)

    You get:

    -x - 13 - 4x = -15 + 27x +2

    Add the x's together on the left, and add the integers on the right:

    -5x - 13 = -13 + 27x

    Add 13 to both sides:

    -5x = 27x

    Subtract 27x from both sides:

    -32x = 0

    Divide both sides by -32:

    x = 0
