I need help on how to edit a song with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0?

I want to edit the song Renegade by the Styx. At the beginning of the song there are some thumps you can slightly hear, and I want to make them louder and strong sounding so its a good bass thump. But I dont want to change the rest of the song. How can I do that. I also have Magix Music Maker Basic if I can use that.

Use Audacity.... its free you may have to download the MP3 codec before saving in MP3 format. The codec is free too.
