I need help on my geometry homework please!?

okay so today was the first day of school & my geometry teacher gave me homework, but he didn't teach us anything!!! I'm just stuck on these 2 problems..

If-then statements; Converses

6). x>7 implies x>2

8). An animal is a penguin only if it is a bird

We're supposed to tell whether each statment is true or false. Then write the converse and tell whether it is true or false & If the statement or converse is false, give a counterexample..

I would really appreciate it, if you would help me & not just give the answer.

Thanks if advance! God bless <3

  1. x is greater than 7 so it has to be greater than 2

    it is true

    not alll birds are penguins

    false

x>2 implies x>7 counterexample is false

a penguin is a bird only if it is an animal counterexample true

  2. 1st in if-then form:

    6) If x>7, then x>2; true

    converse, if x>2, then x>7; false; counterexample x = 4

    8) only if means then

If an animal is a penguin, then it is a bird; true

Converse: if an animal isa bird, then it isa penguin; false; crow.

  3. i think both are true

  4. I know how to do 6. Since x is greater than 7 (say just for this purpose, that x=10), then x (10) will also be greater than 2. So this statement is true.

  5. I think true 4 both.

  6. If you read it aloud you should see it immediately: x>7 implies x>2

"X greater than 7 implies x is greater than 2". All I can say is that is true. If

X is greater than 7 it is also greater than 2 because 7 is greater than 2.

An animal is a penguin only if it is a bird because penguins are birds.

    They're both true.

Make them false by contradicting something:

    x<7 implies x>2

An animal is a bird only if it is a penguin.
