Im a college student, going into my second year, and i plan on majoring in accounting or finance. I really want to get an internship next summer, and many of the top accounting firms and other business companies come and recruit students from campus. I have nothing really speical on my resume-- i worked in many places on a temp contract or during the summer, so all of the jobs listed are short-term( ranging from 1- 3 months), im in a few clubs around campus, and i got a 3.4 gpa my first year-- so nothing spectacular

Is there any tips or suggestions to make me standout amongst the hundreds of students applying for these positions?

  1. yes. begin your resume with a brief, non-trite objective that has some calibrated flair to it. ask a wordsmith to help you if you get writer's block.

  2. What you are going to have to do is to pull out things you did during your other jobs that answer the "So What" question.  Look at your employment experiences and with each one have a short paragraph with your daily responsibilities, Then bullet items that went above and beyond.  Anything you did to save time and money.  Anything where you showed out of the box thinking.

Going forward find out what these companies are looking for in an intern and follow that path.
