  2. You can go to theknot.com There you can find dresses at a great price.  As for honeymoon, a cruise is the best way to go!  But, you still need to find wedding locations ceremony/reception, photograper etc.  It depends on your area.  My wedding is in Feb has well.

  3. Sit down with your fiance and make a list of your monthly incomes and your monthly expenses.  And see what's leftover after that.  Then make your wedding another monthly "expense" and start a high interest savings account (like an ING account) that will automatically take that "expense" out of your bank account each month until the wedding.

My fiance and I set aside about $300 each per month for our wedding. And since it's not for another year and a bit we will actually earn a decent amount of interest that can be 'bonus' money to help pay for our honeymoon or something.

    Good Luck!

  4. If you look hard enough, you can save money on everything.

The best thing you have going for you is your wedding date. because it's in February, you can probably get deals with venues and caterers because it's a slow time of year for them. Ask for discounts, you'll probably get them.

For your dress, try David's Bridal - horrible customer service, but really nice, reasonably-priced gowns. Also, houseofbrides.com sells discounted designer gowns. You might want to check them out as well. You could try eBay and craigslist.org for used gowns as well.

Cut back on decor like crazy. It's necessary, especially for your ceremony. The only flowers we're having are bouquets and boutionieres, and that's it. No fancy  table centerpieces or anything. Just lots of candles to create warmth in the room (which would be perfect for you for a winter wedding).

Get a small cake for pictures, but then purchase less expensive sheet cakes from the baker. You'll save a lot of money.

The only thing you shouldn't skimp out on is the photographer. Your dress, the cake, the food, the decor will all only last a day. Your pictures will last forever.

That should get you started. Happy planning!

  5. The main thing to remember is to make the wedding and all it's trappings fit the budget you have.  Don't try to do it the other way and make your dream wedding fit into whatever budget you've got.

Here's the easiest way to find out your total budget:

    1.  Take the amount you and/or your fiance' can & want to contribute to

the wedding. (either from a lump sum like savings acct or tax         return,      or a certain amount each paycheck).

    2.  Take the amount you will get from family and/or friends for the

         wedding expenses.

    3.  Take the amount you are willing and/or able to put on a credit card.

Add these three amounts together (keep in mind one or more of these amounts may be 0(zero)) and that total is your wedding budget.

Ways to save up front are:

    1.  Keep the guest count low

    2.  Have the wedding and reception in the same facility, so you don't have to pay two rental fees.

    3.  Have the event at a non-meal hour, such as 1 pm, 1:30 pm, 2 pm,

or 7;30 or 8 pm so that you don't have to feed the guests a whole meal.

    4.  Live without luxuries such as programs and favors.  They will never miss them!

    5.  Look at the lower priced items first; if you find something you like or love, then order or buy it without looking at all the high priced stuff!

Good luck to you & best wishes!

  6. http://www.orientaltrading.com

    good deals on this site.

honeymoon,I heard Cozumel,Mex.has some of the cheapest deals and the place is beautiful. We're going there for ours.

  7. the key: doing a lot yourself! and eliminating things you don't really need. like you don't need flowers, you can use candelabras painted white/ivory found on ebay as your head table pieces, and some interesting candle pieces or branch arrangements for your table centerpieces. you don't need special place card holders, just get some card stock or regular blank invitations and write people's names on them. You don't really need a cocktail hour, or an isle runner unless necessary, or pew bows. you know, people only notice the atmosphere, the food, and the music. spend your good money getting those things right and no one will notice that you skipped some of the details. you can also get a consigned dress, keep your wedding party small or don't have one at all, etc. have a friend who's good at photography take your pics--cut out some poses you like and ask them to practice, and a 5mp digital makes prints up to an 11x16 so no need for a pro level camera. if on a very strict budget, have a potluck instead of catering (just make sure your venue allows outside food)....good luck!

p.s. i don't know what kind of honeymoon you want but the place where i'm getting married has very reasonable rates for rooms and SO MUCH fun stuff to do.

it's on lake lure in nc...you could even go over to the outerbanks after a few days in the mountains. it's all so romantic for an outdoor loving couple!

  8. My advice is to shop around! There are a TON of money saving tips out there!

Oriental Trading Company (OrientalTrading.com) is good for favors/gifts.

Decor- Try to find a place with built in decor or go to Michaels!

Dresses- David's Bridal or J Crew

Honeymoon- Try Kyak.com They have great deals!

    I hope that helps!

  9. If you go to amazon, you can find books that will offer lots of useful suggestions on how to save money for your wedding.  Two that were helpful for me were "Bridal Bargains" by Denise and Alan Fields, and "1000 Best Wedding Bargains" by Sharon Naylor.  I was able to keep the entire cost of my wedding down to $3500.

  10. My fiance and I opened an ING savings account and started putting 200 out of every paycheck in there as well any extra he got for traveling for work, tax refunds, etc.

We saved 10,000 in the course of 8 months.

Also, the ING account earns 3% interest... as far as saving accounts go that's great!

Also, The wedding channel has THE BEST budget calculator around.  I love it.

    Good Luck and congrats!

  11. This site has a nice wedding budget planner.

But one piece of advice. Don't sweat the small things and have fun planning YOUR wedding. You may want a big lavish wedding but why waste thousands of dollars on just one day when you can use it towards purchasing a home or having a really nice honeymoon?

This is how I had my wedding under $1500 with almost 60 people attending.

I didn't buy a big fancy dress. Instead I wore a beautiful lace dress I found for $40. After all, I was only going to wear it that one day and I wanted to be comfortable. If you do want a traditional dress there are plenty of places you can look that have discount prices.

Then I had my bridesmaids wear black dresses. Didn't matter what kind of dress as long as the dress was black. Every woman has a black dress of some kind. cost - $0

The flowers ($80), invitations ($40) and decorations (maybe $200) I found on Ebay. They have people on there that can customize your flowers and decorations perfectly and both were gorgeous

A family member knew of a lady who make cakes on the side. She charged me $270 for a cake that a regular bakery wanted to charge $700 for! And hers was much larger and $30 was for delivery. Big bargain there.

I had a family member who is a minister so he performed the ceremony. But I made sure to tip him well. ($50)

And where I work has a beautiful gazebo by a pond so not only was I able to have an outside wedding but able to have all my co-workers attend as well! More gifts!! cost - $0!!!

Music - made a cd of favorite songs and played them on a large stereo that a co-worker monitored. cost - $0

Food -  We had barbecue and fixings that everyone demolished quickly - $300

    Plates and cutlery - $150

Then for pictures, I found a friend with a video camera and another with a digital camera. cost - $100. You can also buy disposable cameras to pass out to family members and close friends and let them go at it!

    Total cost - $1260.00

Hope some of these tips help you. Good luck planning and congratulations!

  12. Honeymoon - be reasonable, choose somewhere the two of you have been wanting to go, pick a nice hotel, and reasonable "outings." You don't have to go to a beach side paradise. Also, if there are any cruise ports in your local area, you can go on a cruise for about $300/person (depending on the cruise line and your selections, could be $500/person).

Wedding - know how much you CAN spend, not how much you can AFFORD, there is a difference. If you have a $5,000 "budget" you CAN spend $4,000 - because there will be some unexpected thing that will need to be covered and you'll have to come up with the $ somewhere, so it's best to leave a cushion in your budget.
