and i dont get this ones either please help i dont want to fail

14+5n=-4n+17?

4(4 - w) =3(2w + 2)?

1/3(c + 1) = 1/6(3c - 5)?

1/9(2m - 16) = 1/3(2m + 4)

i begged you please help, i really want to understand this

  1. to solve for a vairiable you need to isolate it

    and to do that you move all to one side by using opposite operations

    ex:

    14+5n=-4n+17    ---------subtract 14 over

    -14     |       -14

    5n  =  4n+3   ----------------- subtract 4n over

    -4n |   -4n

    n = 3

  2. ok

    1.) 14+5n=4n +17

    14+5n-4n=17

    n=3

    you subtract the 5n from the 4n since their common factors (both include x's)

    2.) 4(4-w)=3(2w+2)

    16-4w (multiply the parenthesis)=6w+6

    16=4w+6w+6

    16-6=10w

    10=10w

    w=1

    3.) 1/3(c+1)=1/6(3c-5)

    1/3c+1/3=1/2c-5/6

    1/3c+1/3-1/2c+-5/6

    -1/6c=-5/6-1/3

    -1/6c=1/2

    c=-3

    4.) 1/9(2m-16)=1/3(2m+4)

    2/9m-16/9=2/3m+4/3

    2/9m-2/3m=16/9+4/3

    -4/9m=28/9

    m=-7

    I HOPE I COULD HELP!!! :D :D

    good luck in geometry!

  3. im thinking i remeber that when doind fractions wth this kind of work you simply do it as thought it where any other problem of the same kind

  4. You know the whole Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally (PEMDAS) rule right?

    That should help you big time!!

    just go in order--

    when looking at a problem in algebra always use it

    " P " stands for parenthesis-- any time you see parenthesis solve whats between them, first.

    ' E " stands for exponents- its the second part of the problem you solve.

    " M " stands for multiplication-- solve any multiplication you have in the problem.

    " D " stands for division-- solve any dividing you have to do in the problem.

    " A " stands for adding-- do any adding you have in the problem.

    ' S " =  subtraction-- do any subtracting you have.

    also -- you may not want to do this- but TRUST ME it HELPS SOOOO much-- but it helps to write out your steps. re write your problem after you solve each letter of the "pemdas".

    This is quite difficult to explain when you are typing it.

    Im sorry i wish i could help you a bit better!

    Good Luck hon!

  5. Use PEMDAS every time you need help with the order of operations.

    (PEMDAS) - Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.

    Parenthesis

    Exponents

    Multiplication

    Division

    Addition

    Subtraction

    Since P (Parenthesis) is first, you solve the numbers in the parenthesis first ! If you can not move to the next order of operation, exponents.

    Get the hang of it ?

    "14+5n=-4n+17"

    First of all you ALWAYS put the variables together.

    You can't add 5n to14 because you do not know what n is so you are SOLVING for n.

    move negative 4n to the other side making it 9n.

    then subtract 14 to from 17 making that 3.

    the equation then comes out to be

    9n = 3

    you then divide 9 to 3 leaving you with the answer 1/3.

    "4(4 - w) =3(2w + 2)"

    Using PEMDAS, since you can not solve the numbers in the parenthesis&since there is no exponents you move on to multiplication. You distribute 4(4-w) making that 16-4w.

    Then you do it to the other side making it 6w + 6.

    That leaves you with 16 - 4w = 6w + 6.

    Then put the variables together. 6w +4w =10w

    Then subtract 6 from 16 leaving you with 10.

    That leaves you wit 10 = 10w

    Then divide. w = 1.

    "1/3(c + 1) = 1/6(3c - 5)"

    this is similar to the problem above.

    Move on the multiplication since you can't do the P&D.

    the left side of the equation would be 1/3c + 1/3.

    the right side of the equation would be 1/2c - 5/6.

    Leaving you with 1/3c + 1/3 = 1/2c - 5/6.

    You then would put the variables together. Since 1/2 is bigger subtract the 1/3 from the 1/2 so you don't have to deal with multiplying the negative out. Leaving that with 1/6.

    Then add 5/6 to 1/3.

    Leaving you with 7/6 = 1/6 c.

    Then divide 1/6 to 7/6 leaving you with the answer of

    c = 7

    Hope that helped&helped you to understand the material ! :)

  6. You want to put like expressions together:

    14+5n=4n+17 =

    14+5n-14=4n+17-14 =    Subtract 14 from each side so you only have n's on left.

    5n=4n+3 =                    Now subtract 4n from each side, to only have #s on right.

    5n-4n=4n+3-4n =           Can you do the last step?

    A fraction is just a way to show division.

    (To remove a positive number, remove a negative number, or use subtraction.

    For multiplication, remove the expression by using division - you use the reverse operation to cancel out a term.)

  7. 1) this simplifies to N=3

    2)this simplifies down to 10w=10, therefore w=1

    3)this simplifies down to c/3+1/3=c/2-5/6

    this further simplifies down to 1/6c=-1/2,therefore c=-3

    4)this simplifies down to 2m/9 - 16/9 = 2m/3 + 4/3

    this further simplifies down to 36m=-252, therefore m=-7

  8. 14+5n=4n+17

    (subtract)

    14+n=17

    (bring 14 to the other side; since its positive (addition ) change it to negative (subtraction)

    n= 17-14

    answer: n-3

    --------------------------------------...

    16-4w=6x+6

    16=10x+6

    10=10x

    answer: x=1

    --------------------------------------...

    the fractions are too confusing to type out . . . good luck! hope i helped...

  9. For number one:

    14+5n= 4n+17

    subtract 14 from 17 and 4n from 5n (cancel it out from other side)

    n= 3

    For number 2:

    distribute so,

    16- 4w= 6w+6

    and do the same as in problem #1.

    Distribute for the last two as well, it just looks more complicated because it uses fractions.

    I took geometry last year, I'm fifteen, so its fresh in my mind.

  10. I'll try to help you 1 question at a time.

    14+5n=4n+17

    You have to get the like terms together.  That means numbers on 1 side and numbers with letters on the other side.

    1. Subtract 14 from each side to get 5n alone.

                           14+5n=4n+17

                          -14            -14

                        ------------------------------

                                5n=4n+3

    2.  Now subtract 4n from each side.

                                5n = 4n+3

                               -4n   -4n

                           ---------------------------

                                 1n=3  or just n=3

    3.  Go back and plug in 3 for n.

                            14+5(3) = 4(3) +17

                             14+15 = 12+17

                                    29=29
