  1. Always smile! Even if you hate the table you are working with. People can be harsh but don't worry most of them are just human!!

Check tables often but not too often, take time to stand back and just sweep your eyes from one table to the next, anyone look unhappy? Or are they smiling and talking amongst themselves. If they're glancing about its another indication they might need something. Be very friendly but don't be overly bubbly it can come off as ditsy and unless your table is full of jackass guys who are big pervs, no one like a ditsy girl. Don't hesitate to apologies but once you do let that be it, if you are still hearing complaints simply ask what you can do to fix the situation, if the people are being unbearable simply tell them I'll be right back with a manager and walk away to find assistance in the matter....I'm sure everything will run smoothly, its only one night. Be prepared things do happen but also have a good time! People will feel the vibe that your having fun so chances are they'll have a better time to!

  2. Smile...be friendly...joking can be good...Just have fun and so will they...if they have fun the tips will flow...do not get flustered or nervous and if ya do turn it into a joke.

  3. If you're serving a couple, give most of your attention to the woman.  If she's happy, he is too and will tip you better.  The biggest mistake I see waitresses make is being too friendly with the man.  Don't do anything that might look flirtatious.

  4. Pay attention to keeping drink glasses full, if butter is on the table make certain there is plenty.  Serve over the left shoulder and pick up finished plates(always ask first if they are finished) over the right shoulder.  Ask if food is served properly, correct quickly.  If it is a formal setting, be as invisible and efficient as possible.  Anything else, act like they came over to your house for dinner; friendly, happy, caring, and have fun.
