There's a catchy song about it on an album called 'Slow Learner', states the year as '1910 and 4.' (It's 1910 and 4, and the boys have gone to war, and we don't know if they'll be back again.') I think this folk song is just called Dance with me, but the name of the artist slips my mind.

WWI started in 1914.  Like that, you mean?  Oh!  You mean for a lyric!  Hmmm.  The Gulf of Tonkin Affair started the "real war" in Vietnam.  That happened in 1964. After that, the US increased the troops from 18, 000 to 500,000!  They also started bombing Hanoi and other North Vietnamese targets.
