  1. If you want to begin anywhere, begin at either the door of your room or the back of it and work your way up. While cleaning, don't pay attention to the rest of your room. The Key is to concentrate and break down this large task at hand into smaller tasks so they look less menacing.

While cleaning, turn off the television (if you have one in your room) and turn on the radio or your mp3/Ipod and jam out to your favorite tunes. Close your door and concentrate on this problem of yours till fixed. Motivation is key! Reward yourself for cleaning your room after your done.

  2. Purge. Take out clothes that don't fit you anymore or are outdated. Watched s*x and the City? Do what Carrie did. Invite friends over and make them help you decide which clothes to keep and which clothes to throw.

  3. Check the weather...make sure there is some sunshine on the weekend before you declutter your room...it usually runs more smoothly when its nice out.

Then, go on a shopping trip to any organizing store, office supply store, etc. You only need a bit of money...get cute baskets and bins that you can hide shoes, accessories and clothes in. Stackable is the way to go also. That way you can have 2 on 2 all the way across in your closet, or just one big one.

Now, take EVERYthing out of ur room. Put it in the hallway temporarily. Then, go in there, vaccuum real good, wash the windows...dust...see, to be completely happy with it, you need to start from scratch

Then, move in the main pieces of furniture to where they will stay (for the time being|). Now, visualize the room u want. Clean, tidy, Organized mainly. work on the little details, that way its completely organized...something as small as a bowl holding jewellery is a great way to bring in organization. Also, take those bins and baskets, and fold ur clothes in them. Stuff u barely wear or are meant for other months such as winter coats, etc. can be stored in them. Everything else can be folded into dresser drawers and hung in the closet

Something as simple as colour coordinating your closet can make it visually appealing...almost relaxing.

Or just hide it all away behind closet doors...but still keep in neat!

Long but seriously this does work...whenever i change my room around, i do this. Then, i love my room even more!

  4. First get two big bags or boxes.  One is donating to charity, the other is trash.  Do not start with the things laying around, that is what you use more often, so start inside the drawers and closet.  Fill those bags and get more if you need to.  When you have enough room in your drawers, you can begin to put away the things you are keeping.  Put undies in one drawer, sox and scarves and belts together in another drawer.  Put shirts in a drawer of their own, same with pants and pajamas.  Keep your shoes in shoe boxes (I like the plastic see through ones) that you can stack.  Hang up your jackets and dresses.  Put papers into binders and DVDs and CDs in an organizer.  Take out the trash.  Never throw dirty clothes on your floor, always take them to the laundry room so your room doesn't get burried.  Dust a little and decorate with your favorite items.  Be generous with your donations, you won't miss them.  Below is a link to a neat store that sells organizing items.

  5. Give clothes to a local Good Will or someplace like that. That way, you can get money or a tax refund.

Maximize storage space. Use good looking baskets for clothes, one for dirty and one for clean. Use closet organizers available at walmart to get space for closets.

  6. You have two choices....do closet first and room last or room first, closet last.

Start by binning obvious trash such as scrap paper. Next look through other items and decide I need this or trash.

When you do your clothes bin any worn out clothes, bag clothes that are too small and give to charity and neatly fold/hang other clothes. A simple rule I follow is for every new piece of clothing I buy, I bin an old one. That way it is always cluttered

Once you have done the cleanup follow this:

every night: bin unwanted items and tidy away clothes.

every week: clean and polish your room.

You could also buy a hamper or box that you put items/papers/other items into and every week when cleaning sort through it.

Also, if you don't make your bed everyday, start to do it. Making a bed can make a room look cleaner and open windows so the room always smells fresh and clean.

    Hope this helps!
