Help planning a kids birthday party!?

I am trying to figure out what to do for my boys birthday party. They are going to be 10 and 9 yrs old. And they are sharing the party.

The kids will be a mix of ages (family and friends from school) There are 17 kids in the family and my oldest invited some kids from school. So many people and age groups I am freaking out! Ages are from 1 to 12 mostly between 7-11 and 4 of them are 3 and under. Please help me with some ideas.

The party will be held at home (backyard party)

  1. barbaque hamburges hot dogs salads game s pin the tail music dancing kids love to dance sack race ring around the chairs where music stops ect

  2. i think because of the age groups try a carnival party with popcorn, candy apples, hotdogs and chips..make a makeshift barlike serving area for the food and have people eat when they want, buy inexpensive prizes at dollar stores and candy for games that are set up randomly around the yard such as

duck pond....3ring pool with floating rubber ducks or another floating objects w/ numbers on bottom

tin can toss...set up cans with a bean bag to throw, prizes for certain amount knocked over

lollipop tree...color ends of some of the lollipops and stick into a peice of styrofoam or drilled out holes in a peice of wood, kids keep the sucker but get a prize if the end of theirs is colored

    horseshoes...self explanitory

prize walk..like the cake walk but land on the number you draw and win a prize, use chalk to block squares on the driveway in a circle with numbers in the middle, when the music stops the player on thesquare with the number you draw out of the hat wins

let the adults who are coming run these games and make sure to buy enough items for prizes, if time allows for delivery check out oriental trading company online for large quantities of prizes but with cost of shipping your better off going to the dollar stores, buy bagged candy bars, treat bags to hand out for kids to collect prizes,bubbles,pencils,erasers,suckers,p... bagged bugs, rubber balls, stickers and check out your local michaels or joann fabrics for ideas

  3. they can play video games and eat hot dogs or order pizza and wings.

    have fun

  4. You need a theme to start with. And with such an array of ages I would suggest a circus theme....everyone loves a circus. You can rent MANY things from party stores that will keep this vast age group happy.  Popcorn makers, cotton candy makers, sno-cones, warm pretzels. Have an adult willing to help coordinate certain areas.....such as face painting you can find face paints easily and it's cheap fun. If your back or front yard is big enough rent a jumping gym. You can buy (at walmart) your own helium tank and blow up balloons for guests. Have party favors in brown paper sacks decorated by your kids and put balloons/bubbles/plastic toy animals/gum/crayons.....this is cheap. Have a popcorn maker give out bags of popcorn. Have a bucket toss. Give prizes......you can get a load of little toys from Oriental trading and give those out. Bean bag toss games. Hot dogs are a favorite for everyone and have large bowls of condiments so the guests can fix their own.  Instead of cake have cupcakes and let the kids decorate their own to eat (put frosting into zip lock bags and snip the end.....the frosting is contained for less mess) Sometimes you can "rent" a clown to come to your party to do tricks or balloon art. There are so many things you can do with this theme. Good luck and have fun. Many times the simplest things are what makes your kids happy.........go for fun not for quantity. One day they will appreciate all your efforts......probably won't be until they have kids of their own though. :)

  5. you can't go wrong with two pinitas. the little boys especial will love wacking it around. (just hide the stick after your done or they'll start hitting each other, oh the bad memories) if its warm there you could try renting a pool, or buying a few wading pools from big lots or walmart. or you could get super soakers and let them play army men and run around wetting each other. (before you give them the guns, tell them the first person to spray and adult sits in time out for about 30 mins. that a big enough deterrant i've found) you could also get plain cupcakes and decorations (menly ones like sour gummies and candied army guys) and let them decorate their cupcakes.

these are mostly suggestions for younger boys, My nephew is just five and that's some of the things we've done for his birthday.

  6. I think mzrx007 gave my answer. lol. I have done the circus theme before and it was a BIG hit. Here is the link to the Oriental Trading Company

As for the age differences you can always ask the older kids to help "run" the circus, face painting, sno cone making, pop corn popping, running the games. That is also a fun part of the party.

You can get a piece of plywood and nail balloons to it that they throw darts at for prizes.

Ring toss, knock the bottles down, ping pong ball in the fish bowl game. You can make this a great party, be creative. Have fun!

  7. if you have a pool do a pool party

  8. how about a pizza party.....

    loud music, grown up games

  9. For my sisters party we bought a lot of playdo in the mini containers so there wasn't an issue with sharing and we let them decorate there own cupcakes. you should also make up some games like popping baloons with prizes in them or something.

  10. You might contact your local fire or police department.  They're usually happy to send a couple of people to talk to the kids; and the firemen will usually let the kids climb all over the fire engines:).....of course, a bounce house and pinata are always good to have too.  You might have a small area set aside for the toddlers, with some toys for them too.  ... A BBQ with hot dogs (gourmet sausages for the adults) and hamburgers would be nice - but you could just order an assortment of pizzas too, if you don't want all the work of a BBQ.  Veggie/dip and fruit platters  ...  lemonade for the kids (it doesn't stain) .....  Think about getting a "cupcake cake" (Kroger's has them, and most grocery bakeries probably do), which is cupcakes pushed together and frosted as one cake on top.  Easier to serve and easier for the kids to eat......

  11. Well, the food, singing Happy Birthday, and then the opening of presents, will all draw attention.  Little kids will play, older kids will talk.  You would want some activities for the younger kids, traditional birthday games would be fine.   Or something like those kids face paints for the young ones, maybe you could ask an artistic friend to help out if no one in your family wants to try it?   (Maybe the older kids would want to paint each others faces?!  Don't know your kids, but some that age are into cosplay.)   Frisbee or something for the older kids, if your backyard is big enough.  You may lose the attention of some older kids after the food has been served, they may wander inside, but that wouldn't ruin the party.  Good luck, and have fun.
