Besides going to the salons and asking where can I find cosmetologists that will work for free or nearly free.

Is it weird to ask people to donate money for the event and not just the charity?

  1. This event shouldn't cost you anything at all. Ask some different salons if they would be interested in hosting the event and then contact your local newspapers/TV stations to cover the event. Most salon owners would jump at the chance for this free publicity.

  2. Your motivations could be important here.

As a frequent (3 times in the last 5 years) donor I have had a variety of experiences.  What might yield the best *event* would be to find a salon to host the event, and individuals to make other kinds of contributions.

If a salon would make itself (and some of its stylists) available on an evening when they don't normally work...like a Friday for example...you could invite people for a "hair makeover" party.  Some wine and/or cocktails (donated from a local liquor store) some snacks (donated by a local restaurant or deli) and some music.  Voila! You have an event.

    Good luck!

  3. You could also try cosmetology schools.  You could go to different salons and see if someone wanted to donate their time.  You might want to advertise on radio and TV or in the newspaper for community events  to get more people involved.
