I have had a Garter snake sense the 4th of july, and everything has been just fine for my Garter snake. My snake eats good, sheds, and comes out of it's hut often so I know it's not insecure, witch is good right? I usaully feed my Garter snake about 6 small gold fish a week and it does just fine. But in these past 3 weeks I have cut back on feeding it 6 gold fish. Instead I feed my snake 3 or maybe 4 gold fish. The problem is now my snake is throw the fish back up. Please can anyone tell me whats wrong? Could my snake be sick?

  1. An all fish diet will cause a severe vitamin deficiency that will hurt & could kill your snake. Garter snakes will happily eat all the earthworms you can feed them & these are an excellent, complete meal for them. You can feed minnows occasionally but not ever as a steady fish only diet. As you snake grows, you can start offerring mice of the appropriate sizes.

  2. Go to a vet and start feeding it crickets or pinkies!!

  3. You shouldn't feed it gold fish. They have thaimin (or something like that) that can make your snake sick. Try guppies or minnows.
