Something called ANTIVIRUS XP 2008 has just installed itself on my laptop. I am unable to remove it.

I am unfamiliar with using regedit so I haven't tried that.

Can anyone help please?

  1. switch of system restore and install and run the free version of SUPERantispyware http://superantispyware.com Be sure to update the program and do a full scan. Reboot and scan again and if it's clear you can re-enable system restore if you choose.

  2. No antivirus will remove AntiVirus XP 2008, so don't waste your time trying them, it's not  a virus as such but  a malicious codec.

having dealt with way too many of these and the various names that they use the one program that does remove it is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant...

Download, install, update and select Quick Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

  3. Reboot your computer. Make sure you really cannot uninstall it. Theres probably a hacker or some virus on your computer.

  4. this is how i got rid of it

click on tools > delete browsing history > delete all

    > check the box, also delete files and settings stored by

    add-on's >yes.

    ......................................... next" ,..........................................

start > all programs > pc help and tools > system restore

    > system restore settings > system restore > check the box turn off system restore on all drives > ok

then go here and do scan.

then go here and do Full Service Scan

then turn the system restore back to on...

and hey presto a clean machine...

  5. Virus removal

One possibility on Windows Me, Windows XP and Windows Vista is a tool known as System Restore, which restores the registry and critical system files to a previous checkpoint. Often a virus will cause a system to hang, and a subsequent hard reboot will render a system restore point from the same day corrupt.

Restore points from previous days should work provided the virus is not designed to corrupt the restore files.

Some viruses, however, disable system restore and other important tools such as Task Manager and Command Prompt.

Reinstalling the operating system is another approach to virus removal. It involves simply reformatting the OS partition and installing the OS from its original media, or imaging the partition with a clean backup image.

  6. try

control panel - uninstall a programm-

if its on the list click it and remove , also not sure on reg editor , dont mess with it can damage your system

if that dont work , install spybot search and destroy , run acheck , this should detect and remove it

  7. try going to trendmicro and running housecall. it takes a while but it might get rid of it. or restart your laptop and as soon as it starts hit the f8 button and keep taping it this should take you to a screen with several options  move the highlite down to start in safe mode. press enter then run virus scans and spyware scans then reboot and see if its gone. if you dont feel safe with the registry download the EUSING free reg cleaner. its safe to use and saves a lot of hassel.
