i didn't get to play in the game today cuz my coach doesn't think im ready to be in them. and i also don't think i have my parents support any more. they said how am i going to keep a job keep my straight A's play volleyball and do VAB volentering advisory board. but i wasn't planning on joining VAB until second semester of school.

so for volleyball can anybody help me on how to improve my hitting and my serving. i can get the ball over almost every time when i am hitting but i cant nail it over really hard. my serving i cant seem to get it over. the ball makes it a little past the 10 foot line before it hits the ground.

this is my first year playing to and i think i can handle everything thats on my plate. ANY ADVICE AT ALL IS APPRECIATED and now more than ever cuz i want to prove my parents wrong.

  1. yeah i know how you feel. my parents dont like volleyball because of the outfits (short shorts). well to serve, toss it up no more than 2ft in the air. hit the middle of the ball as hard as you can as your non dominant hand swings back. when you toss too, take a step foward with your non dominant foot. as for passing, make sure the ball hits your forearms are curve your wrist down. do NOT swing your arm. it will go straight up or fly back. always bend and if you can't get it over, try to hit it lightly so one of your team member can get it over. don't worry! ive only been playing a few months and im considered one of the top four players in my grade. i just improved my serving today. but i get it over the net once out of every 4 or 5 tries, so i also recommend you work out. push ups, just throwing the ball above your head, lifting dumbells. you need more strength. im 13 and i can sometimes get it over. but follow through. make sure your arm lands on your thigh. you'll get it though! just keep practicing until you find a hand position that you feel comfortable with and it makes the ball go high and fast.

  2. I know how you feel because i have a 3.7 average in school and I play volleyball all year round (except summer- its a break!)...It is really hard maintaining the average, being involved in your community, and during your household chores.  For hitting, ALWAYS do the approach because before I thought it was optional so I never did it but when I started to, I saw an improvement. Also, always have your shoulder in which you hit with back so when you hit the ball, it'll come forward and have more force.  Always flip your wrist so it can come down instead of being an out.  As for overhand serving, do not throw the ball all the way up, just a little past your head and make sure your hand is extended when making contact with the ball.  Keep practicing hard throughout the summer and hopefully some of these techniques will help improve your game.
