the other night before i was talking to my sister in law (she is new in the family she just got married to my brother and she is British (i don't have nothing against British people)

we had planed for her and my brother to come to my home for a visit but I told her that I didn't know if I would be available, so I told her that I would confirm it with her the following day.

So I did, I send her the following SMS - AOA (ASALAMOALAIKIUM) sister, i hope u r fine? ?I just wanted to let you know that i can't see u guys today bcoz my husband has exam tomorrow in international financial management and he has to study. Im just going home now from Brighton. Im sorry but I hope to see u some other day. Take care. Iman.

This is the reply.

Sorry iman forgot about u today went round London. Just home now. Hope ur trip to Brighton was good. Mind urself . C u soon

My question is this what does she mean by mind yourself it sound so rude to me to say take care of yourself that way to my knowledge mind yourself is a warning. I called her back on that day and she ended up insulting me by saying that my English is not that good and that She is sorry if my understanding of the English language is not that good I was shocked as I have lived in England all my life although not being born here and I have British mates and none of them has ever said that to me.

I'm going to meet her a soon i'm still hurt.

What do you think was that rude and insulting or should i say sorry help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. i think shes saying take care in a weird way lol

  2. Its just another way of saynig take care. Dont get insulted so easily.

    Peace

  3. Well i don;t think you should have got insulted by what she said, but it's been made into a bigger deal over the phone it seems.

Just say to he that you misunderstood what she said on the text and maybe thought too much about it, say you're sorry for that but tell her that there was no need to insult you on the phone for it, you misunderstood, it wouldn't have become an argument if she simply explained.

I'm british, I've never heard someone say mind yourself to say take care...the only things i've heard it said to mean is etiher, watch yourself ..or if you're nearly tripping they say mind yourself as to say careful.

  4. I really dont know why people are saying its a british way of saying take care, im from the uk, born here, never heard anyone say that once. Maybe its a dialect thing but ur sis-in-law should watch her mouth before she gets so personal!! I think she was just trying to make u feel bad/dumb we. Anyway let it go sister. x

  5. Is that an English expression? I've never heard it but it sounds like "take care of yourself" in Brit talk :P

    Wasalam.
