  1. With many video files you'll be able to just open up Windows Movie Maker and simply "import" the footage.  A problem you may be having or may have is not all video files are in a format that video editors take, particularly one like Windows Movie Maker.

If that is the case then you'll need to "convert" whatever type of video file you have into something that Movie Maker can take... such as "DV AVI" (Sometimes called just DV or Microsoft AVI) which is your best bet when working with video editing software.  You can peruse "Download.com" using some keywords to see if you can find the kind of video converter you need, either for free, for demo, or at a small price.

For a list of files Windows Movie Maker supports, as well as an overview of importing, see this link....

  2. if you have mozilla firefox, there should be an add-on that you can have called MediaPirate. if that is downloaded, you can watch a video and at the top right of the internet, you can see a arrow, click it to download the video. then save it to your desktop. you should be able to import video file onto windows media player.

  3. You can download videos from services a variety of ways, and although it is legal, it is contrary to what the services want you to do. In fact, merely downloading it is legal, but using it for your own purposes is probably not legal in most cases, since you took it without permission.

Besides, unless you're "borrowing" (a.k.a., stealing) from Vimeo.com or something, you will get HORRIBLE video quality; very pixelated, low frame rate (15p).

If you're just downloading videos that are offered for free in MPG, WMV, or MOV format, you download them to your computer, then go to the "import" function of Windows Movie Maker. Find the file on your drive, and import it. If WMM won't import a certain file, it probably isn't compatible with that format, and the file needs to be converted. Find a program online to convert video files, such as MPEG Streamclip.
