  1. ok if think about it if the lenght of the tree is to the show is 8 that and

    so that means its half the shawdow is half the sixe of the tree so then 8 feet is is half so the shoaw is half  but the trees so its 8 =p

    ____

    __

  2. You need to use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve this:

    a^2 + b^2 = c^2

    where a and b are the legs of the triangle and c is the hypotenuse

    Using this we can say x is the length of the shadow and 2x is the height of the tree.  The hypotenuse is given as 8 feet.

    x^2 + (2x)^2 = 8^2

    x^2 + 4x^2 = 64

    5x^2 = 64

    x^2 = 12.8

    x = 3.58  (aprox.)   <-- Shadow

    and

    2x = 7.16              <-- Height of tree

    Check:

    3.58^2 + 7.16^2 = 8^2

    12.82 + 51.27 = 64

    64 = 64

    So the answer is about  3.58 feet.  Hope this helps!!

  3. Ryan: Read the question a different way.  The information given says the tree is twice the size of the shadow.  You know the answer then if you can do two things.  Tell how tall the tree is and then say what fraction of that would be equal to the length of the shadow.

  4. 16 feet?
