I'm soon to start ballet and I haven't done it in a while so I know I'm out of dancing shape. What are some exercises/stretches that I can do to prepare myself?

Gracias.

  1. It depends on what level you're starting on.  If you're starting beginning ballet, don't worry at all about preparing yourself.  Your teacher is well equipped to help you get back on your feet.  If you're trying to take a lvl 2 class, or intermediate, make sure you go through all the basic barre technique. Know positions 1-6, your portebras in 1st, 2nd, etc, plies, tendus, degage's, ron de jambs, frappe, etcetera.  There are tons of websites online that can help you with the basics.  Other than that, stretch your hips and hamstrings, do your splits in all 3 positions, butterfly, pike, frog, straddle, lunges...if you need help with stretches there are websites for that too. Hope some of that vocabulary jogged your memory.

Good luck with everything! Oh and make sure you have a nice black leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes.  I really recommend Grishko canvas ballet slippers, they're fabulous.

  2. There is a stretch called the spider you sit on the ground with your legs spread as far as you can with your foot pointed down and then you bend your knees up one at a time and you flex your foot

    Try ballancing exercieses

    Theres bow and arrows

    practice your spins

  3. put your leg on the bar and stretch

  4. go to youtube.com and look up ballet stretches try the splits and if you can't do them yet hold it for 8 minutes hope this helped=^..^=

  5. Go through all your basic positions, pirouettes, splits in all three ways, nice tondues, demi and grande plies, grandebattemonts, developes, but the main thing is flexebility. If your body is fit-ie crunches- and flexible, the only thing is picking up the steps. It's a lot harder to not be fit enough to do the steps than just having to learn them. Also, sit on the floor with your legs out in front, heels together. Then, flex both feet, and put one leg on top of the other. Now your heel should be on top of the flexed toe. After this take both hands and grab your feet, and try to put your chest on your legs. This will really stretch your calves. Good Luck!!! You'll be fine. Just be patient with yourself. Hope this helps.
