My 5 year female cat peed on our brand new futon cushion last night. Can someone please recommend a good product to get the smell out and keep her from doing it again?

  1. Vinegar has always worked for me.

  2. I accidentally locked my cat in my bedroom the other night. I went to Walmart

and got Arm & Hammer Carpet & Fabric Pet Fresh spray. It works immediately!

    It was like $2

  3. You're smart - if you don't get the smell up, she's apt to pee there again. Here's what I use: Nature's Miracle. It has enzymes that neutralize the odors in cat urine. You can buy it in pet stores or on the internet. Here's one place, below.

Also, I'm a member of a pet care listgroup that is nearly 10,000 members strong, and whenever someone posts a question to the list about good cat pee removers, Nature's Miracle is always the most-quoted product. If that helps you decide. That group's website also listed below, but you have to join (takes 3 minutes) if you want to access the emails.

Another thought - assume you are keeping the litter box clean? And that your cat doesn't have a urinary tract infection? If she does it again, please take her to the vet to have her tested; if it's a UTI, you'd want to start antibiotics ASAP.

  4. I've tried a lot of products, but Urine Gone is by far the best.

    You can find it here:

  5. As soon as you can, sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch on the spot to help draw out the urine.  This only works on a fresh, wet spot.  Leave the cornstarch there plenty long enough to absorb the urine and then vacuum it up.

(If the spot has dried already, perhaps you can moisten with a little water and LITTLE soap, rub it in, let it sit for a while (though not enough to dry,) and then try the cornstarch.  I cannot vouch for this method, I am only suggesting it.)

Once you've vacuumed the cornstarch, sprinkle plenty of baking soda on the spot and then spray the spot with white vinegar until it begins to foam.  Once the foams subsides, scrub the spot, let it dry to white, and then vacuum up.  If there is any white baking soda residue left over, then you can probably wipe it clean with a damp washcloth.  The vinegar is an antiseptic and a deterrent, and the baking soda is an odor neutralizer.  They work VERY WELL together for all kinds of cleaning jobs.

Finally, I have heard that orange oil is an effective cat deterrent but, of course, make sure the litter box is clean too.  That is usually the first reason cats don't use the box though, perhaps, this is not your case.

    Good luck!

  6. Wash the area well with soap and water, let it dry. Then apply Odo Ban ( you can find it at Walmart). I have an older cat that has accidents, I have been using this product for a couple of months and it works!

  7. vinegar soak
