I need help styling my hair please!!!?

Question

I have brown hair and its thick, but not unstylable. Its also always sticking up at the back when its short because it shoots straight up and looks c**p. You can't tell when my hairs long though. I use a hairdryer to sort of style to give it a smart but messy look. i.e messy at back and like a brushed over fringe.

Any tips on how i can style my hair better please? I use wax to help style it too and can you recommend any good wax?
