ive ended up with a 8 mnth old bosc monitor because he went a bit aggresive due to kids and louds noises around him, since ive had him we have started using feeding tongs for his food and everyday i try and get him out of his tank which i can do 90% of the time it just depends on how many is in the house.is there any thing else we can do so we can let him roam around when hes older and so hes well trained.he loves watching the tv tho!

  1. I had a Savannah monitor for a while, so I imagine that there behaviors are similar. I have always found that feeding an animal (any animal) by had helps tame them more quickly. Basically the idea is that when the animal eats, it smells you and connects you with being the provider...kinda the old theory that the dog does not bite the hand that feeds them.

I know that monitors have a lot of teeth...and it hurts when they get a hold of a finger or hand.... so I would first try to use a real good thick leather glove with food (super worms or something) in your hand.

I think it sounds like you are doing a good job so far. Animals that have been abused (weather on purpose or not) take a lot of patience and there are not many people who have what it takes to get animals back to normal after they have almost gone crazy. Good luck.

  2. whats a bosc monitor... no idea what type of animal that is lol

  3. I breed monitors i have about 4 adult water monitors 3 savanah (bosc ) and 7 adult (nile) Savannah monitors tame quite easily.  Niles are harder to tame.  The smallest ones are easiest to work with.  If you handle yours daily, he soon learns to adjust to (put up with) you. What I do is i get a piece of wood or anything that floats easy with weight i put it in my bath tub with a mouse on it then i put my bosc in itswims and snatchs the rat . also let him know your boss dont be scared if he hisses pick him up grab his mouth if he bites and hold it shut dont worry about claws butdonthurt him any other lizard questions ask me i breed leopardgeckos onitors and water dragons i have a bearded dragon too.
