i am a 2001 kia optima and i just got the clutch replaced on it with 80,000 milles. the trans shifted pretty good up to the time i got the clutch replaced but ever since i got the clutch done i have been having trouble shifting gears when i first start out.

The first problem occurs when the shift k**b is still in neutral and i have trouble getting the stick to go back in forth when it is still in neutral. it feels like something is blocking it from moving.

the second problem comes when i am driving, when i first start driving it is really hard to shift and i cant down shift untill i am stopped. but after driving for awhile all the kinks seem to work themselves out but as soon as the car sits for a little bit all the problems are back.

so what i am trying to ask is if anyone knows if it would be a trans problem or was the clutch messed up when it was put in?

  1. You just need to have them adjust the clutch again, you have to much free play. It should be quick and easy.

    Good Luck!

  2. Sounds like a clutch problem to me. I assume you had it replaced at a reputable repair facility and have a warranty. I would take it back and explain what's going on and I am sure they will take care of it no charge.

  3. Sounds like a clutch too me.Or they forgot to put oil in the transmission.

  4. Sounds like the shifter needs a simple alignment or at worst alignment and new bushings. Not a big deal. The people who did the clutch should definitely eat the labor to fix this. If it needs bushings, you should pay for that. I suggest you let them tell you what's wrong. It may also be a minor clutch adjustment, but it sounds like linkage.
