1. Angel M is right. By German civil code you cannot legally purchase anything without your parents consent if you are under 18. Your legal guardians can void any non-entirely benificial contract you made. For this reason you need a letter of parental approval in order to rent a bed at a hostel, buy tickets or food, etc.

If you are so determined to go, talk to your parents. There really should not be a problem if you want to visit your relatives. Maybe you can even arrange it to bring one or two friends along for the trip. Also if you are from the UK, check out http://www.yha.org.uk/ . The German YHA and other organsations offer trips abroad for people from 12-18 years. For example my parents send me on a language school trip to Brighton when I was 14 and I could have easily arranged for my friends to accompany me. Why don't you simply shop around for a summer camp in Germany that you all can attend with your parents approval? Yeah, that doesn't sound half as much fun - but it is better that way. Much less hassle, because all things you would need to worry about are taken care of.

I had to wait until after my 18th birthday until I could make my first trip abroad without a guardian looking over my shoulder and in hindsight my mother was right to make me wait. I still made a number of mistakes on that trip, mostly due to inexperience and bad planning. But I fear what havoc I would have done to myself had I gone at 16. At 18 I had at least the foresight to inquire about health insurance abroad and to book my bed in the youth hostel in advance. But I forgot about budgeting money for food (I never had to worry about that before), I underestimated prices for entry to sights big time and I did not bother to put my valuables away into the hostel safe (I did not know such things existed). Only safeguard I took was to store my cash and my bus tickets among my dirty underwear. Luckily nothing got stolen. So it is really better to have someone else to take care of things, at least until you are older. Much less stressful, especially if you f*** up.

Going to Germany you'll all need a passport and buy tickets. Tickets to Germany and tickets to get around. You usually book these tickets over the internet and pay them with credit or debit card. Bam, mom and dad are involved. (I doubt you have your own credit card.) Plus you should not all carry all the cash you need for the trip around with you (what if you lost it?), so you all need a banking account with an ATM card that works in Germany. Bam, here are mom and dad again, as you need their approval to get an account. Same for the passport. And finally - where would you get the money for your trip from? Aren't you at a stage where your parents still pay for everything?

For 2 weeks in Germany, you would need around 400 EUR just to have food to eat and a place to sleep if you stay in a hostel. Add to this the cost of the bus or flight tickets to Germany. For a real trip with partying and seeing things you'll need for 14 days around 900 EUR (600 GBP) if you are from the UK and around 2000 USD if you are from the USA (including the price for tickets to Germany.) Wouldn't your parents notice if that much money in cash went missing? Or how else were you planning on getting the money for the trip?

  2. I don't want to sound mean, but who the heck came up with this plan?????And why has he/she convinced a bunch of people to follew he/she???????

16 year-olds shouldn't sneak off by themselves halfway around the world without telling their parents, that's it, Period, no exceptions!!!

Why do you have to go to Germany? No one there speaks English, anyway, so it would probably be really hard to get around. Wouldn't it just be better to go somewhere closer, say an amusement park close to your house, or something at least on the same continent?

Do you even know how much trouble you would be in? It's got to be unimaginable!

  3. Why can't you let you parents know? I find that somewhat childish. Like, 5-year old.

And why you need to ask us here for lies? If you are so "smart" to come up with a brainfart like that, then you can surely find the right lies for destroying whatever trust your parents still have in you. Way to go to make yourself look like a reliable and grown-up person.

But some general advice: outside of the fact that you have to come up with money for making the trip, booking accomodations, spending money etc, you will need valid identification, a means of paying for hospital or doctors (if your parents have a health insurance for you, you'll have to contact them).

Oh, and SOMEONE should know where you are. **** happens all the time, only a few days ago a 14-year old girl was murdered on her way home, and they've tightened up on juvenile drinking binges lately. In case you get arrested or end yourself up in the hospital, they will need to contact your parents because they are your legal guardians. It would be good to have their contact information on you in case you are unconscious or dead.

  4. you cant your not of age. They will check you for your papers at the airport.....sure to get caught

  5. People in Germany DO speak english, otherwise i agree with the above!!!

  6. Where are you from ??? The UK ???

Well, you need to let your parents know, otherwise they can get into trouble with the law and might end up with jail time...for not having watched you!

Also, what if you are in an accident and need help (health insurance etc.)...you really need to have an adults permission.

    But otherwise have fun!!!

PS: I have been to the UK several times on my own with a group of friends and we had a blast!

  7. I am not completely sure but I think you need a legal guardian in order to enter the country. I agree with the other answers. Is the fun the trip would bring really worth loosing your parents' trust and scaring them to death? Also, how do you want to get around? You have to be 18 in order to rent/drive a car, book a hotel, use a credit card and so on. You should talk to your parents and see if your relatives would invite you and your friends for a few weeks.
