1.Build a supportive network for families offering information in their native language.
2.Increase parent’s knowledge and understanding of IDEA and relevant laws and regulations. Training will include the following topics: “The I.F.S.P. to I.E.P. Transitioning Processâ€Â, “IEP Trainingâ€Â, “What is a 504 Plan?", and "No Child Left Behind Act." This will lead to a greater parental capacity to address and meet their child’s needs.
3.Assist parents in organizing the medical information regarding their child with special health care needs and increase parent awareness of available health care systems and their rights pertaining to accessible health care. Training will be provided at the “The Medical Home Binder†workshops.
4.Recruit, support and train parent leaders, to act as group facilitators, parent trainers, and Mentor Parents. Provide “Parent Leadership Training†as designed by Families Voices of California.
5.Increase the awareness of professionals who work with a child with disabilities and/or special health care needs.
