  1. Not many hamsters will sleep in your hands, but if you want a gentle, calm hamster, a short-haired syrian is the best choice. Of course, personality differs between hamsters, so you need to watch its behavior before you buy it. If it runs around, bites, or tries to leap out of your hands when you pick it up, it is probably a bad choice. You can also ask the workers who are selling the hamster, who usually know it pretty well.

Just a note, syrians can't live together. Dwarf hamsters can, but they are often savage biters. It's all right to have more than one in the same room (not the same cage) as long as they are the same s*x, but different sexes should be kept away from each other unless breeding, or they will be miserable.

My hamster paul min- sorry, I just HAVE to tell about him- is the sweetest thing in the world. He has never ever ever bitten me, will let anyone, even our cat Lia (he was in no danger) hold him, and he survived a thirty foot fall and three days in a furnace (no kidding.) He's a short haired syrian and I love him with all my heart.

  2. I used to have two DWARF HAMSTERS.

they, like every rodent on this planet, p**p a lot.....but, they are usually very calm and cute.

I used to let "little tiny" (my sister named it......don't ask) crawl all up and down my arm...then i would put her in my hoodie pocket and she would fall asleep.

they don't grow AT ALL, and they're very soft.

I loved that hamster so much... *cries*

    [[sorry]]

  3. In my personal experience Siberian hamsters are usually the best.

  4. Okay the best breed of hamster is a short haired hamster, although I don't think any hamster wil fall asleep in your hands they are the sweetest hamsters out there. They are also the largest, so it may take two hands for him to sleep in,lol. Don't get a teddy bear, trust me, I worked in a petsore, those things are evil. Dwarfs arn't far behind but any hamster is better than a teddy bear. I know I sound biased, I know there are always exceptions, but generally speaking, unless you get it from someone who has a litter that is already used to human contact, expect to be bitten. Dwarfs there is a chance you will get a sweet one and you could fit two of them in one of your hands! Black bear hamsters are okay, but a little unpredictable. But no matter the breed ifyou get it from someone who had a littler and handled the babies alot when they were young you will get a sweet one, but if you are getting from a store I would highly reccomend a shorthair. They are so sweet and gentle. The only thing is you need to wake them up before you pick them up, otherwise you will scare them and they could bite.

If none of these sound good you could get a gerbil, it is not in their nature to bite so you wouldn't really have to worry about that, but they are very hyper and would defineatly not fall asleep in your hand.

  5. FANCY HAMSTER!

This breed is active when wide awake but if you pick it up after a few weeks when its really used to you touching it it falls asleep in you hands.

(well mine does. She is so calm when she wakes up and during most of the day/night.)

  6. the calmest hamster are Syrian(teddy bear, panda, Fancy all names for the same thing)
