I need help understanding about permanent resident?

I was born in New Zealand but lived the United states for almost 11 years now.I'm married to an u.s. citizen and he's now about to join the military.i also have a 6 months old son which my husband is the father too.I have read through all of permanet resident on the www.USCIS.gov page but i don't exactly understand it all. im tryingt o figure out exactly what i have to do.STEP TO STEP process.can someone help me figure this whole thing out

  1. If you are in the US legally, you must have a green card.  If so, once you have been a green card holder for 5 years, you can apply for naturalization.  If you have been married for more than three years, you can also apply for naturalization.

    If you are not in the US legally, see a lawyer asap as both you and your husband could be in trouble.


  2. Request your spouse to be your sponsor to become a US citizen.

  3. The filing process totally depends on what is your current status in US and how you entered in US. If you entered US legally but overstayed or not have filed for adjusted your status to Permanent Resident, there is some ways to proceed. In that case, you really really need to hire good immigration attorney, since you should file I-212 or 601 Waiver for your illegal presence.

    If you entered US illegally without any visa, you have to leave US and process Adjustment at US Embassy in your home country.
