Yeah, yeah, I know-I procrastinated, but I'm getting off to a good start now and will have it finished and looking awesome by the time school starts.

There's one thing I don't understand-time frame.

Thanks for your help!

For each chapter, we have to take notes on the setting. The example given to us lists the time, place, duration of the chapter, and TIME FRAME. It talks about a chapter "having the same time frame as the rest of the story."

The book's about a city girl who goes to live in a small town for a year. The chapters are basically stories about different stuff that happens in the town-Halloween, Armistice Day, Christmas. Each is kind of like a short story in itself, although the main character develops throughout the book.

Would the chapters be on the same "time frame" as one another, or what? They all take place during the time she's living there, but there's no real connection between them.

  1. A time frame is the period of time in which something occurs, i.e. two weeks, Autumn, 1962, etc.

I would say if all of the chapters seem to be a chronologic progression, then they are all within the same general time frame. However, if one chapter was a flash forward several years or something to that effect, then that chapter would be out of the time frame of the other chapters.

  2. You've answered your own question here.  You say that she goes "to live in a small town FOR A YEAR".  Then you say that the chapters are basically storeis about different suff that happens in the town.

Yes, the chapters would be in the same time frame, unless she has flashbacks to her life BEFORE she came to the small town.  Then, those chapters would be in the past.  If she thinks about the future and imagines her life at that time, then those chapters would be in the future.

Hope this is clearer for you.
