Express the area A of a rectangle as a function of the width W if the length of the rectangle is twice its width.

  1. area=length*width. since the area is twice as long as wide it is a=l*2w


  2. The area of a rectangle is the width times the height, so A=l*w

    since the length is twice the width, l=2*w.

    So A=2*w*w=2*w^2
