I need help with Spyro A New Beginning for Gamecube. It wont let me complete training with Ignitus.?

I'm stuck in spyro a new beginning for game cube. I'm training with ignitus and he wants me to "X" then "A" then " R." He says to "repeat this five times." I am suppose to hit the dojo dummies into the air then jump and knock them away from by by following his instructions. The make sure I'm doing it right, there is a progression bar at the top that lights up each step you do correctly. I am doing the steps correctly, but 1) the dummies aren't dying and 2) no matter how many times I attack, no matter which dummy or how many dummies I attack, it won't count my attacks. So I can't graduate from this particular skill. Why?

i think that you may be able to do it if you restart the game and play for beginning because your not that far in if this does not help then make sure you give like 1sec break before pressing the next button hope this helps!
