school started recently and i want to be on armed drill team.My teacher says it would be better if i went to unarmed because theres such a lack of people in unarmed.I havent seen any girls on the armed varsity team,i only see them in unarmed. Can i be in the armed varsity team? i know im probably not gonna make varsity as a freshman but in the future.Well,im mean more like do they separate the girls from the guys on the teams because i see no girls what so ever

also i know one of the reasons is because the gun is about 9 pounds but i held it and i think i can still twirl it :)

  1. The drill teams are based on gender. Although the separation is usually set by what you have seen between the teams. Its all based on size. You don't want to have a team with all 6 foot tall men tossing rifles back and forth with a small person right in the middle. It throws off the presentation on uniformity. Its all about the same thing doing the same maneuvers at the same time. You just can't have something throwing off the routine by something as simple as that. I know its got to suck but that's the way the game is played.

  2. I was in the Ceremonial Guard in the real navy the piece they use are 16 Lbs ,their were atleast 4 females that did it just fine they didn't make it far cause they didn't have a pair but it's possible!! As a freshman it's hard but dont sell yourself short try again next year but unarmed will be great to atleast get your foot in the door.

  3. firstly it is a rifle... not a gun... you'll want to watch what you call it because you will get push ups for that!! i would start off on unarmed but no the teams are not split up.... i was actually drill team and color guard commander my senior year and i am female.... it is tougher to do armed because not only are you doing marching commands but also rifle commands... practice practice practice so when you get up there in rank you can hit the varsity team.... since you are a freshmen you will probably start off on the let one team but the experience will help alot!!
