I need help with a math problem?

Question

During her free time, Jill baby-sits the neighborhood children. She charges $4.50 for each whole hour or any fraction of an hour. Write a function that shows the cost of x hours of baby-sitting.

I thought it was f(x) = 4.5x but i might be wrong

Hi,

Use the greatest integer function, which would pay $4.50 for any time up to and including 1 hour, $9 for any time more than 1 hour up to and including 2 hours, etc.

f(x) = [4.50(x + 1)] <==ANSWER

You need a function that rounds x up to the next integer.

you need the rounding up function to account for the "or any fraction of an hour" part.
