  1. per cent means "out of 100"

    so 30% is 30/100 which is .30

    so 30% of 9 hours is written as .3 x 9 = 2.7

    so he spends 2.7 hours watching tv. (that is 2 hours and 42 minutes)

  2. you multiply 9hours by 30%

    9x30%=2.7

  3. 1. Jared has 9 hours of free time.

    2. He spends 30% of it watching TV.

    3. So what is 30% of 9 hours?

    4. 30% = .30

    5. 9 hours x .30 = 2.70 hours. (2 hours and .70 of a third)

    6. Probably you should convert the .70 into minutes.

    7. 1 hour = 60 minutes

    8. 60 x .70 = 42 minutes

    9. So the amount of time Jared spends watching TV is 2 hours and 42 minutes.

  4. Translation:

    "%" = "÷100"

    "of" = "·"

    30% of 9:00 = 30÷100·9:00 = 0.3·9:00 = 2:42
