Only two days old and was never a good eater. Poor suction and can never stay latched on. I have been putting all of the puppies on the mom every two or three hours and today with this last feeding puppy wont eat at all! Won't even hardly move! Is there anything I can do? If I take her to the vet is there anything they can do for a two day old puppy? I'm really afraid I'm gunna lose her!

  1. they have some kind of formula type stuff that you can give newborn puppies at petsmart.... i have never used it but i have seen it there... good luck though. if that doesnt work then id go to a vet.

  2. put the puppy with the mom alone and don't let the other ones con to close in fact don't let them see each other.

  3. if it is cold keep it warm and bottle feed it and keep it stimulated.good luck

  4. yes they can tell u what is wrong she could be born alive still born.

  5. you need to put it on a bottle and gently squeese milk into its mouth. i raised mine from four days, so i know what its like. Also, just call your doctor and explain the situation to see what they say, and make sure you follow thru. email me if you have any q :)

  6. There are two main problems that occur with newborn puppies that aren't able to eat adequately. One is that they get dehydrated, and the other is that they get chilled. Either one can lead to serious problems, and results in a puppy that won't/can't eat and is lethargic.

I would recommend that you get this puppy warmed up, by putting it in a box with a warming pad/hot water bottle, or with a heat lamp over it. You will also need to supplement feed this little one.

Your veterinarian can help you and I would suggest calling them, or even a 24 hour animal hospital if it's after hours or your vet is closed. If necessary they could give the puppy fluids to combat any dehydration, but it would depend on the clinic. Many times they will leave it up to you to take care of it.

As your momma dog hasn't rejected this pup, if you can get it warm and some fluids into it, then it may be more able to nurse. Supplemental feeding to help it get that 'bit extra' for a few weeks may make all the difference.

I think you'll find the article listed below helpful as it has tons of advice and information on raising rejected, sickly or orphaned puppies.

Best of luck, hope this little one makes it.

  7. Is it the runt of the litter that isn't eating? I don't know what you can do about it but I do know the runt is usually the one that you may have trouble feeding. Sorry I couldn't be of anymore help.
