I need help with a plumbing problem!

Question

I have a combination bathtub/shower. When I turn the water on in the tub, every thing is fine, but when I turn the handle in the middle for the shower, the water stops flowing into the tub, but does not start coming out of the shower head. Any ideas on what is wrong?

first thing i would try is removing the shower head and then trying it again without the head on, in a lot of areas with hard water, mineral deposits will build up and clog the head. if that doesn't work then it's probably a problem in the valve assembly itself and that would mean time to call in the professionals.

The shower head is probably stopped up, if not the diverter (stem that you are turning need repair or replacing.  Sometimes it's just a matter of replacing a rubber washer.
