I need help with a theme for my room, of 9 and 10 yr olds this summer???

I have 4 boys and 4 girls, for a summer school thing... I was thinking Mary's Magical Kingdom, Mary's Marvelous Magicians, or Mary's Magnificent Mysteries???? it like the kingdom idea but I don't know if it's too juvenile I was gona do like a castle entrance to the classroom, son decorations like giants, wizards, and other stuff on the bulletin boards, and some other ideas....but what do u think?

Great idea, but be careful with the wizard thing. Some parents are a little touchy about that sort of thing. If you have bulletin boards, cover it with fabric that has a star pattern on it. Use star cut-outs or prince/princess hat cut-outs for the kid's names. Pin their work on the bulletin board (under their name) when they done something outstanding. If you have reading time, use a wand or magician's hat to signify who's turn it is to read or lead the reading group. Have fun! Get the kids involved----they'll love it!

Lori's right - some parents with more conservative beliefs would be uncomfortable with the magic.

However, I love Mary's Magnificent Mysteries - it's highly flexible. You can incorporate history, science, literature, etc. In fact...I may feel the need to "steal" this one.

Use astronomy as your decorating them - if possible, incorporate some mystery elements like blow-ups of the covers of Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys. How about "fantastical" creatures found in nature like the emu, the komodo dragon, and other unusual animals.

i teach 4th grade and the kids would like it so I don't think it is too babyish.

I like the kingdom idea - stick with medieval knights and princesses and dragons. I used that theme for our school art show and the kids k-5 loved the theme. Each of the kids could make their own coat of arms the first day to display.
