I need help with blu ray discs?

i want to make a backup of my whole computer but i can't keep it on there for too long because it slows my computer down and i know that a blu ray disk will hold it

so does anyone know if i can write files to a blu ray disc with a normal dvd rw or do you need a special blu ray disc drive

  1. Hi rosswilkes,

    You can't write to Blu Ray but if your drive has a DL designation you can use DL media. That gives you 8.5 GB per DVD so you could split your backup over as many as necessary.

    The poster above suggested a external hard drive and if you can afford one that is the best way to begin with. I use an external drive and backup once a month.

    My external drive holds four complete backups. I delete the oldest and write a new one so I always have the last four.

    you would need and actual Blu Ray disc drive/burner.

    My suggestion is to buy an external Hard Drive (HDD).  You can get a 250gb drive for about $100. They are pretty cheap now.
